Chelsea suffers a major injury setback ahead of the Club World Cup

Chelsea may be without one of their key players during the upcoming Club World Cup due to Mason Mount’s injury against Plymouth Argyle.

The Blues midfielder started the match at Stamford Bridge before being substituted in the 96th minute. He was replaced by Saul Niguez. Chelsea have suffered a potentially serious injury setback ahead of the FIFA Club World Cup.

Blues manager Thomas Tuchel was unable to attend the game due to a positive Covid test. Mount has already been a key player for the Blues this season, contributing seven goals and seven assists.

“We have a few problems,” admitted Michel Arnos, who took over in Tuchel’s absence. We had to take out Mason [Mount], Hakim [Ziyech], and Azpi felt his hamstring, Chelsea have confirmed that azpilicueta will not travel with the team for club world cup.

Due to quarantine restrictions, he is likely to miss the team’s Club World Cup semi-final against either Al-Hilal or Al Jazira on Wednesday. Tuchel, who led Chelsea to the 2021 Champions League title, should be able to return for Saturday’s final, or third-place match.
