Dani Alves received a 2-game ban after his red card against Atletico Madrid

Right-back of Barcelona Dani Alves has been suspended for two matches after being sent off in Sunday’s 4-2 win over Atletico Madrid, according to La Liga.

Alves got a straight red card in the 69th minute at Camp Nou for a high challenge on Yannick Carrasco. The Brazilian had earlier scored to put Barcelona up 4-1. Alves will now miss Sunday’s La Liga derby against Espanyol as well as Barcelona’s next league game against Valencia at Mestalla on February 20.

Alves had a busy day, scoring once, assisting once, and receiving a red card. It made for a tense final 20 minutes for Barcelona, but they held on to win 4-2 and earn a valuable three points. Barcelona has appealed Dani Alves’ two-game suspension for his red card in the match against Atlético Madrid.

The Spanish Football Federation’s (RFEF) Competition Committee also punished Xavi’s brother and second in command, Oscar Hernandez, with a two-game suspension for his repeated protests against Manzano’s refereeing decisions.
