Dani Alves was left out of Barcelona’s squad for the Europa League knockout stage as coach Xavi Hernandez decided to include new signings Ferran Torres, Adama Traore, and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, according to Marca.
Catalan giants must submit an updated squad for the Europa League knockout stage. And they are only allowed to add three new items. Although, it was unclear which of the four new signings would be sacrificed, veteran right back Dani Alves was revealed to be the victim.
Alves’ exclusion is due to a variety of factors, including his age. With manager Xavi Hernandez believing that the Brazilians’ priority must be to focus on La Liga. Nonetheless, Barcelona has a number of other options at right back, including Ronal Araujo, Sergi Roberto, Oscar Mingueza and Sergino Dest.
Barcelona finished third in their Champions League group, losing to Benfica and Bayern Munich. In the play-off round, Barcelona will face Serie A giant Napoli.
