Dortmund is closing in on Bayern Munich in the league

Borussia Dortmund FC

Borussia Dortmund has closed the gap on the Bundesliga leader Bayern Munich after a 1-0 victory over 1. FSV Mainz 05.

Jonathan Burkardt had the best chance of the first half, but Emre Can blocked his close-range shot well.

During the second half, Erling Haaland came off the bench for Dortmund, and he went close to scoring in the 68th minute, only to be denied by Mainz goalkeeper Robin Zentner.

It looked like the match was going to end in a goalless draw, only for Alex Witsel to score a late goal. Borussia Dortmund are now just four points behind the league leaders, Bayern Munich.

Bayern Munich drew and were not able to take all three points in their last two games against Bayer Leverkusen and Hoffenheim.

Meanwhile, Borussia Dortmund scored a late 87th minute goal against 1. FSV Mainz 05 to take all three points.

It will be an interesting title race as Dortmund have their star striker back from injury. Meanwhile, Bayern lost their number nine, Lewandowski, due to injury.
