FC Barcelona president Joan Laporta has revealed that they are close to renewing the contract of young midfielder Gavi.
Gavi has only one year left on his contract with Barcelona and the club is keen to renew his contract at Camp Nou.
Moreover, Gavi has many other contract offers from the European team to sign him. However, the intention of Gavi is to stay with Barcelona.
“We’re optimistic because we want Gavi to stay at Barcelona,” said Laporta.
“We are very excited about him staying, he’s from our academy. The player and his agent, who we know, also want to stay at Barcelona.
“We are very close to reaching an agreement.”
Barcelona had an exceptional season with full of ups and downs. They were in 9th place on the league table before Xavi took over as a manager.
However, after the appointment of Xavi Barcelona finished second on the league table behind Real Madrid.
Barcelona will be looking to build a great team to compete on a higher level. Therefore, they are renewing contract of important players to secure club’s future.
