Manchester City’s João Cancelo has signed a contract extension that will keep him at the club until 2027. In the summer of 2019, the Portuguese full back joined City.
Since then, Canelo has made 106 appearances for the Citizens in all competitions, Contributing 21 goals and winning three major trophies. “Manchester City is a fantastic club, so I am incredibly happy to have signed this new agreement,” Cancelo said on the club’s official website.
“It makes all the sense to extend my contract with Manchester City. My first season was tough, but in my second and third season, both the team and I have done things well. I have developed as a player. It’s a club I like to be in. The staff that work here are amazing, it’s a real family. It made complete sense for me to extend my contract here, also for my family as well. I feel great in this club and my teammates help me to improve every day.” João Cancelo said on extending his contract.
Man City Director of Football Txiki Begiristain added: “He is so versatile. Whether he plays right-back, left-back or in midfield, he operates at the same high level. That is a dream for a manager. I am really happy he has signed, and I can’t wait to see him develop in the coming years.”
It will be an epic battle between Liverpool’s Trent Alexander Arnold and Manchester City’s João Cancelo in coming years.
