Manchester City signs River Plate’s 22-year-old striker

Manchester City have completed the signing of 22-year-old Argentina Striker Julian Alvarez from River Plate. He will be with River Plate until June. The promising Argentina international has agreed to terms with Manchester City on a five-and-a-half-year contract. With the club paying a reported fee of 18.5 million euros plus add-ons.

Txiki Begiristain, Manchester City’s director of football, commented on Alvarez’s arrival: “I am so happy we have managed to bring him to Manchester City. I really believe we can provide him with the right conditions to fulfil his potential and become a top player.”

During the 2020/21 season, Alvarez was in excellent form for River, scoring 18 goals and providing seven assists in 21 Argentine Primera Division games. Scoring 24 goals and registering 15 assists in 46 appearances across all competitions.

City have been looking for a striker since departure of their all time top scorer Sergio Aguero. And unsuccessful attempts to buy Harry Kane from Tottenham Hotspur. It will be exciting to see how Pep Guardiola Will make use of Julian Alvarez.
