According to recent reports, it is said that Manchester United are closing in on signing Frenkie De Jong from Barcelona.
Manchester United have been linked with De Jong since the arrival of their new manager, Erik ten Haag. Both De Jong and Erik ten Haag had an amazing Champions League run in 2018/19 where they reached the semi-finals, knocking out Real Madrid and Bayern Munich on their way. However, eventually they were eliminated by Mauricio Pochettino’s Tottenham Hotspur.
Barcelona signed De Jong from Ajax after the season of 2018/19 for a deal worth €75 million.
Manchester United midfeilders Paul Pogba and Nemanja Matic are mostly leaving after this campaign. Therefore, Manchester United are looking to strengthen their midfield and Frenkie of Barcelona is one of the most promising midfielder.
According to Gerard Romero, Barcelona are ready to sell Frenkie De Jong and their intention is to sell only because of their financial condition.
Romero also tweeted saying: “Before the end of the league and with a 95% probability, Frenkie De Jong will be transferred to Manchester United,”
“It is a pure economic issue. Barça needs to sell a player who has not been top at the club.”
“The operation would be closed for between €70 and €80m.”
