Manchester United have reportedly offered a €10 million contract to Barcelona center-back Ronald Araujo, whose future is uncertain.

The Uruguay international’s performances have piqued the interest of some of Europe’s top clubs. Indeed, Manchester United, Liverpool, and Chelsea are rumoured to be Araujo’s top Premier League suitors.

Araujo’s current contract expires at the end of next season, and no concrete indications of an extension have emerged. According to Mundo Deportivo, Manchester United were ‘advancing’ for the signing, but Araujo has ‘everything’ at Barcelona, where he wants to ‘make a career.’

The first renewal offer fell short of the player’s agents’ expectations, so it’s up to Barcelona to go above and beyond. Barca manager Xavi recently commented on the situation: “Araujo’s contract extension is one of the priorities. We definitely want to extend his contract as soon as possible.

He is Barcelona’s best defender, but he is also the team’s lowest-earning defender.
