Ronald Araujo has grown by leaps and bounds at Barcelona over the last eighteen months. Manchester United are reportedly preparing to sign promising Barcelona defender Ronald Araujo.
Signed from Boston River in 2018, Ronald Araujo had a breakout season last season, emerging as one of the Blaugrana’s few bright spots. This season, the 22-year-old has stepped up his game, becoming the defensive leader with his aggressive, no-nonsense defending.
Araujo’s current contract is set to expire in 2023, and Barcelona risk losing him on a free transfer if they fail to reach an agreement on an extension in the coming months. According to Marca, Araujo is aware that Europe’s elite are circling. He also rejected Barcelona’s opening proposal over a renewal, and Manchester United are said to be monitoring the situation closely.
Chelsea, Liverpool, and Manchester City have all been linked with Araujo. However, the Red Devils intend to strengthen their defence over the summer. According to Marca, the club is willing to make a ‘large investment’ in the centre-half.
Araujo had struggled for playing time under Ronald Koeman, but the Uruguayan has improved since Xavi took over. ‘I’m very happy to have Ronald on the team; he has such a great personality,’ Barcelona head coach Xavi told reporters.
