Middlesbrough knocked Manchester United out of the FA Cup

Manchester United vs Middlesbrough

Manchester United were knocked out of the FA Cup on penalties by Middlesbrough at Old Trafford. Middlesbrough stunned Manchester United on penalties to advance to the fifth round of the FA Cup.

Manchester United led at halftime thanks to Jadon Sancho’s goal in the 25th minute. They were just as dominant in the second half as they had been in the first, and the only surprise was that it was still only 1-0. Cristiano Ronaldo has missed a penalty, squandered a good chance, and fumbled a one-on-one. Bruno Fernandes had volleyed a good chance into the stands, and Marcus Rashford had done the same in front of the Stretford End.

Middlesbrough forced a chance from nowhere, with Dean Henderson saving from Matt Crooks. After equalising, they grew into the game, while United wilted. The game ended 1-1 after extra time, with United forward Anthony Elanga’s missed penalty ultimately sealing Boro’s 8-7 shoot-out victory.

“We gave up too many chances, especially in the first half,” said Rangnick, United’s interim manager. Manchester United’s trophy drought continues, and the only way to end it is to win the Champions League.
