Romelu Lukaku once again failed to impress or even get noticed on the pitch in South London.
Lukaku set a new Premier League record for the fewest touches by a player who played the entire 90-minute game. Romelu Lukaku had only seven touches in Saturday’s 0-1 win over Crystal Palace, and one of those came from the kick-off.
When asked how he can get Lukaku to touch the ball more frequently, Tuchel responded, “What can I do? I don’t know. We have to deal with it.” It’s not what we want or Romelu wants, but it’s also not the time to laugh about him and make jokes about him. He’s in the spotlight but we will protect him.”
Lukaku has only five Premier League goals in 17 appearances this season since joining Chelsea from Inter Milan for £97.5 million. Chelsea host Lillie at Stamford Bridge for the first leg of the Champions League Knockout Stage on Tuesday.
