Barcelona announced on Tuesday that centre-back Ronald Araujo has agreed to extend his contract at the Camp Nou.
Ronald Araujo’s previous contract with Barcelona was till 2023 only. However, Ronald Araujo has agreed a deal to extend his stay with Barcelona till 2026.
The club made an announcement on their website saying: “FC Barcelona and the player Ronald Araujo have reached an agreement to renew his contract until 30 June 2026. The buyout clause stipulated is set at €1bn,”
“The signing of the new contract will take place on Friday 29 April at 1.30pm CEST on the field at Camp Nou.”
There were many European clubs trying to sign Araujo from Barcelona, but the priority of the Uruguayan was to stay at the Camp Nou.
Though there were many talks going between the club and the player’s agent about extending the contract. However, after months of negotiations, Ronald Araujo signed a contract with the Blaugrana.
His brilliant defensive performance and his consistency made this extension a priority for FC Barcelona president Joan Laporta. The release clause of the 23-year-old Uruguayan defender is now one billion euros.
